Torrontés & Malbec

Malbec

This variety originally comes from France. In many parts of the world it is known as “the black grape” because of the bright inky purple tone it presents in its youth. In Argentina, Malbec has arisen to great prominence. It is the red variety that has best adapted to the country’s soil, since it found the ideal ecological conditions for growing and developing; thus producing exceptional wines.

Higher altitude terroirs produce Malbec wines with perfect acidity, intense colour, and sweet abundant tannins, which are suitable for barrel aging. In lower-altitude areas, Malbec wines are less concentrated and ripen faster.

Torrontés

This white wine variety is only produced in Argentina and has a unique flavour. There are three Torrontés varieties: Torrontés Mendocino and Torrontés Sanjuanino are more suitable for fresh consumption, whereas Torrontés Riojano is the most widely grown and more suitable for the production of fine wines, which are fruitier and dry.

The Calchaquí Valleys in Salta, have gained worldwide reputation thanks to the intensive growth of the Torrontés variety. The grapes exceptional development is due to the valleys special microclimate, the vineyards’ altitude up to 3.100 metres above sea level and the scarce rains, not exceeding 200 mm annually.

Torrontés is a light yellow wine, which may occasionally have golden and green hues. Its aroma evokes roses, jasmines, and citrus. In the mouth, it has the refreshing flavour of a fruit salad, sometimes with hints of oregano or honey and citrus notes. Though the aroma anticipates a sweet wine, its real taste reveals a fresh acidity.
