Bodega Colome

High-Altitude Vineyards

4 Vineyards

Colomé Estate (2,300 masl), which vines are all around the winery, El Arenal Estate (2,700 masl) and Altura Máxima Estate (3,111 masl) in the area of Payogasta-Salta and La Brava Estate (1,750 masl) in the north of the Calchaquí Valley.

The altitude is one of the most important factors for the development of the vine. The higher the altitudes, the greater the exposure to the sun and the wider the thermal amplitude, which ranges between 20° during day and night. Those factors facilitate the uniform and balanced development of the grapes.

The altitude is one of the most important factors for the development of the vine. The higher the altitudes, the greater the exposure to the sun and the wider the thermal amplitude, which ranges between 20° during day and night. Those factors facilitate the uniform and balanced development of the grapes.

Such impact becomes even greater in our Valley because the clear and bright sky contributes to an even higher intensity of the sun.

The result: renowned high-altitude wines of great concentration and balance.

Varieties
Semiarid-desertic with annual precipitation between 60 mm and 150 mm, relative humidity between 15% and 33% and thermal amplitude between 18ºC and 23º Alluvial, sandy loam soils with gravel and some rocks that are great conductors of thermal amplitude. Poor soils with low nutritional and organic concentrations. Pressurised and gravity-fed system with equidistant drip-lines, fed by mountain water kept in reservoirs. Malbec, Cabernte Sauvignon, Tannat, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Bonarda and Torrontes.

Alluvial, deep sandy and rocky soils. Poor soils low in nitrogen with high concentrations of potasium and minerals. Drip irrigation system, pressurised, fed by mountain water kept in reservoirs. Alluvial, sandy soils with high percentage of gravel. Poor soils, but with high concentrations of phosphorus due to the presence of volcanic rock. Pressurised and gravity-fed system with equidistant drip-lines, fed by mountain water kept in reservoirs. Malbec, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah; Torrontes, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

AGROECOLOGICAL PRACTICES

Soil fertilisation with organic fertilisers (compost and manure) from our farm and vegetable garden.

Application of biodynamic preparations, which not only contain organic material but also natural forces and energies that stimulate living processes in the soil and the vines. This energy is also absorbed by the environment and contributes to Colomé mystic spirit.

We incorporate an ancestral worldview into the agricultural management of the vineyards, by planning tasks in agreement with the rhythms of the sun, the moon, and the planets, which have a direct influence on the plants’ fluids and help the grapevines grow in a more harmonious way.
